Based on the J2EE architecture specification by Sun Microsystems, OFSY is designed as a distributed multitier application that separates the various functions of the system. The client tier is designed to provide the user interface to the client which is customizable as per the requirements of the client. The middle tier manages the client services and the business logic for the application using the Enterprise ™ Java Beans (EJBTM) technology. The data storage support is provided by the EIS tier (Enterprise Information System tier) which is capable of connecting to various databases. The advantage of having multiple tiers is that different components of the system can run on different devices, thereby increasing the reliability and scalability. The complete system is protected by corporate firewalls which run both inside and outside the system. In general, this system is reliable, scalable and provides complete security which are the key components for todays enterprise applications.
